Class Prerequisites:
Young Dancers:
Classes at Dance Nation are based on ability, not age. Please read our requirements for each level and style of dance. If you are unsure of where your student should be placed, please contact us for an evaluation. It is common for students to be in each level for a few years, before moving up. An instructor has the right to move a student up or down if they are not placed correctly.
A. Ballet
i.Level 1 - No experience necessary
ii.Level 2 – Soutenu, Double pirouette, Chaîné turns, Single pique turn, Petit Allegro (changement, échappé, assemble, jeté)
iii.Level 3 – Triple pirouette, Double pique turn, Fouetté turns (at least 3 consecutive, with clean landing), À la seconde turns (at least 3 consecutive, with clean landing), Arabesque turn, Double attitude turn, Petit allegro (sissonne, ballonné, cabriole, and encompasses all of level 2 with beats), Extensions (Above 90o), Penché, Tombé coupé jete
B. Tap
i.Level 1 - No experience necessary
ii.Level 2 – Cramp roll, Buffalo, Wings, Toe stands, double heel click, falling off the log, paddle step, pineapple shuffles, triple time step
iii.Level 3 – All of level 2 plus double wings, single leg wings, double pull backs
C. Jazz
i.Level 1 – No experience necessary
ii.Level 2 – Right, Left, & Middle split, double pirouette, chaîne turns
iii.Level 3 – Must be enrolled in at least 2 ballet classes per week, Triple Pirouette, Right, Left, & Middle Splits, Right & Left Leg Extension (Heel-Stretch), Fouetté turns (at least 3 consecutive, with clean landing), À la seconde turns (at least 3 consecutive, with clean landing), Illusion, Side Leaps
D. Musical Theatre
i. No experience necessary
E. Street Jazz (All Level)
i.2 years of Jazz and Hip Hop experience
F. Hip Hop
i.Level 1 – No experience necessary
ii.Level 2 – Freestyle experience, ability to pick up choreography, Isolations, Basic pop & lock, Beginner Waacking, Baby Freeze
iii.Level 3 – Instructor approval, Advanced Free-styling, Isolations, Advanced Waacking, Baby Freeze, Headstand, Headspring
G. Lyrical/Contemporary
i.Level 1 No Experience Necessary
ii.Level 2 – Double Pirouette, Right, Left, & Middle Splits, Right & Left Leg Extension (Heel-Stretch)
iii.Level 3 – Must be enrolled in at least 2 ballet classes per week, Triple Pirouette, Right, Left, & Middle Splits, Right & Left Leg Extension (Heel-Stretch), Fouetté turns (at least 3 consecutive, with clean landing), À la seconde turns (at least 3 consecutive, with clean landing), Illusion, Side Leaps
H. Technique

I. Pointe Prep – At least 9 years old, minimum 3 years of ballet training, Must be placed in Ballet Level 2 or up, Must be enrolled in minimum of 2 ballet classes per week
J. Pointe – At least 10 years old, Minimum 3 years of ballet training, Must be placed in Ballet Level 3 or up, Must be enrolled in minimum of 2 ballet classes per week
K. Stretch/Conditioning (All Level) – No experience necessary
L. Acro/Tumbling:
i.Level 1 – No experience necessary
ii.Level 2 – Right, Left, & Middle Splits, Forward/Backward roll, Backbend, Cartwheel, Handstand, Round-Off,
iii.Level 3 – Right, Left, & Middle Splits, Dive Rolls, Front & Back walkover, Valdez, Front & Back Handspring, Aerial
- Tiny Tots- 18 months-3 years old
- Pre-Dance 3-4 years old
- Novice 5-7 years old
